Rates firmed almost across the board this week: six of the twelve lanes paid more than last week, five held and only one gave ground — the fewest declines yet. Lane counts were thinner overall even as prices rose, and the likeliest reading is tighter truck capacity rather than stronger demand — fewer units on the board, but the ones that are there having to pay up to find a truck. Seattle to Los Angeles is the clearest case, up 8% to $1000–$1150 and its best level since this report began, while its count fell back.
Per road mile the board moved back above a dollar after two weeks under it: Atlanta to Dallas leads at about $1.05 a mile over 787 miles, and Houston to Los Angeles is thinnest at about $0.54 over 1,536 — short lanes almost always carry the higher per-mile number, and it is the long hauls that reward a full load. If you have units waiting, Houston to Los Angeles is the one to move: it came off 15% to $750–$900, giving back most of last week's jump.
